Lacrosse Glossary
- Blocking: A player moves into the path of the player with the ball, deterring him or her from changing direction or stopping, which results in contact.
- Body checking: A defender moves alongside an opponent without contact.
- Charging: Players makes bodily contact with opponent.
- Checking: Using the crosse to attempt to loose the ball from another's crosse.
- Clear: Player in goal circle tries to move the ball out of the circle.
- Clear space: Free space between players.
- Deputy: Defensive player who can only enter goal area when the player's team has the ball and goalkeeper is not in the goal circle.
- Green card: Team is cautioned for delaying game.
- Grounded: Any part of the goalkeeper's or deputy's body touches the ground outside the goal circle while trying to play from inside the circle.
- Marking: Guarding an opponent with the stick's length.
- Pick: The player without the ball forces the opponent to take another route.
- Red card: A card immediately resulting in a player being ejected from the game.
- Slashing: Dangerously swing the crosse.
- Within a Stick's Length: Any part of an opponent's body being within the length of another player's crosse. Players should be no closer than the length of the crosse.
- Yellow card: An offending player is given a warning.
